Stop Loss question

Postby RiujinZero on 05 Jan 2009

How does etoro's stop loss work? I'll have stop loss set one level only to check back later to see the market has gone waaaay past my stop loss level and that the position still remained open. Any help would be appreciated, cause at this rate it looks like I have to sit and babysit my trades.

Hi there RiujinZero - the Stop Loss usually works just fine and is automatically set and adjustable by you at any point during a trade.

It would be useful if you could give an example of your problem - ie: the etails of your trade and the Stop Loss that you set.

Were you trading on your Practice Account because if so, it could be that you had a trade open coincidentally when the eToro team were upgrading the platform. When this happens there can be some instability.

Be reassured that system upgrades NEVER affect trading on Real accounts as these accounts are hosted on separate and far more stable servers to the Practice accounts.

Let us know how your are getting on.

Re: Stop Loss question

I'm using a practice account at the moment but have applied for a real account. Seeing it fly past my stop loss level concerned me if it were to do the same on the real account. As an example I sold eur/usd at 1.3886 and set the stop lost to 1.3910. That is 24 pip stop loss. I come back later to see the market has moved to 1.3930 and my trade was still open. I don't mind it being on my demo account but if this kind of thing happens on the real account my trading strategy would be affected, besides, I'd have to sit and babysit the trades.
