A few forex-related jokes seem appropriate at the end of this very volatile week.

Easy Money

The owner of a large brokerage firm made a surprise visit at the sales department's floor. After a quick tour he reckoned that someone was standing near the secretary, doing nothing. He turned angry and red, approached the guy and asked him:

The owner pulled out $800 from his pocket, gave it to the guy and shouted:

"Here's your salary. Take it, leave now, and never come back!"After regaining calmness, the owner turned to the floor manager and asked him:

"How comes you hire such a lousy person for the sales department?"The floor manager answered:

"Well, he doesn't work here. He is just the pizza delivery boy…"

And the traders :

Q. How did all the Daytraders manage to fit under the limbo bar at their party?
A. They had all gone short.

Q. How come the congo line kept breaking up at the Daytrader's party?
A. Not many of them were willing to go long.

Q. Why couldn't the Daytraders agree where they meet to get together?
A. They all wanted to keep their Options open until the last minute.

Hi there ‘theone09’ - welcome to eToro and to these forums. You have obviously spent some time exploring the various posts on the forums - and that is an excellent start.

I’m so pleased that you found this particular thread useful at precisely the time that you needed to address the ‘forex-stress’ issue.

It is my belief that this is one of the most important aspects that a trader or a potential trader should address. Having said that, I don’t always follow my own advice - and without fail, when I notice stress levels rising and ignore it, I either lose on a trade or get irritated about stupid, unrelated things. However, when I do notice that I need a break - simply to get up, stretch and look out of the window for 5 minutes can help. I usually take the dogs for a walk … they are a pair of stupid mutts and can just make me laugh by looking at them.

If you are a forex beginner - then you have found a great platform and a supportive community and I hope that you begin to enjoy your forex more and more.

Use your Practice Account for as long as it takes for you to feel confident that you can risk your real money. eToro are famously supportive for their new members to use the demo account for as long as they want without investing real money - after all, a trader who loses all the time will not stay trading, but a trader who has invested enough time to become a successful trader will stay active for a long timeand so invest more money.

Stay active on the forums - let us know how you are getting on - ask any questions you have.

Forget everything that has gone before on this thread - all that touchy-feely stuff about taking a walk every so often or about spending quality time with your dogs and other loved ones !

No … no … no … no … no - no longer necessary. You can be a twenty-four hour a day seven days a week trader without getting constipated. Yes ! 24 - 7 trading. Feeling forex-obsessed ?? read this story.

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, re-read this story about the mayonnaise jar and the 2 glasses of wine...

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two glasses of wine from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.. The golf balls are the important things; your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favourite passions; things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.'

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else; the small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls

The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.'

'Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. Do one more run down the ski slope. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the waste disposal. Take care of the golf balls first; the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the wine represented.

The professor smiled. 'I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of glasses of wine with a friend.'

The lead singer of Gogol Bordello, Eugene Hutz, plays an English-speaking Ukrainian tour guide, Alex. His English is self-taught using 'Roget's Thesaurus' and is both tortuous and hilarious. Egs : "I fatigued the thesaurus you presented me, as you counseled me to, when my words appeared petite, or not befitting." Finding translation so "rigid", Alex "rotated" instead of "turned". The firm breasts of his fantasy woman are described as an "unmalleable bosom". The guide dog is a "Seeing Eye bitch". Hearing his little brother crying in his sleep, Alex tries to "counterfeit that I am reposing".

Writing on this thread – and finding fun, relaxing, thoughtful items most weeks to include here, has been great fun. The whole concept of 'getting the balance right' hit right into the centre of my own working practices recently. I won't bore you with the details of what happened.

However, I ended up spending over a week in hospital followed by another week of residential physiotherapy. My daughter helped me to prioritise – one of her first (and as it turned out best) decisions was to deprive me of my laptop and to provide me with magazines and books. She offered to email those people who would be expecting to hear from me re: work related issues and to call those people who would be worried not to get a call or a text from me every few days.

I fretted at first about my work and my trading but my daughter simply said 'Mum, you're more important than all of that'. Then I remembered this thread – and I heeded my own words.

The best thing? My daughter and I talked about the silly things that I read about in the magazines : Which celebrity has cellulite, who's bonking who and why brown is the new grey.

None of that interests me (honestly) but I enjoyed some great, light-hearted, quality time with my lovely daughter. That was priceless.

Lesson : Don't lose sight of what really matters – whether you suffer a major trauma or upset or whether you are just feeling a little bit stressed or tired – the same lesson applies.
