Re: Some days are better than others to trade

Postby Tropezienne on 05 Nov 2008

Some days are busier than other in the forex market. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the most active days. From Sunday evening until Monday/Tuesday traders are mostly watching and analyzing the market to determine price direction. Trading then carries on until about noon (EST) on Fridays then begins to slow down until market closing at 5 pm EST.

European Trading Hours:
The London trading session is 8:00 - 17:00 GMT London is one of the major shopping centers of the world with a market share, of at least, 30 % and a trading volume of $580 billion. This market share and volume makes the London market just about the most volatile of all forex sessions.

The most active pairs of the London session include pairs based on the GBP and the EUR. The pairs USD/CHF, USD/CAD and EUR/USD are also fairly active. Conversely, pairs based on the JPY traditionally do not attract active traders during this session.

Re: Asian Session

Postby Tropezienne on 05 Nov 2008

Asian Trading Hours :
The Asian markets are open from 5pm to 4am EST. Trading during the Asian session can sometimes be in a "narrow range". The most active currency pairs during this session include the British pound, notably GBP/JPY and GBP/CHF.

Other currency pairs that are quite active during this session are the USD/JPY, the AUD/USD and the NZD/USD. Their cross-rates too are also quite active at this time
because the orders are not available in the American session. This gives rise to smoothly flowing transactions in Asian currencies.

Traders sometimes avoid exposure on pairs containing the Euro during the Asian session – coming as it does before the opening of the London session.

More experienced traders can profit during this session on USD/JPY, GBP/CHF and GBP/JPY because their wide range offers plenty of profit opportunities for short-term-traders. Other pairs that are a good choice to trade during this session are USD/JPY, GBP/USD and USD/CHF because they are well-placed for middle-term-traders and long-term-traders to make their decisions based on fundamental analysis.

Re: The American Session

Postby Tropezienne on 05 Nov 2008

The American session:
The New York trading session opens at 13:00 and closes at 22.00 GMT. The fluidity of New York trading accounts for 14 % of world volume of forex transactions. It is really useful to note that the majority of trades made during the New York session happen between 13.00 and 17:00 GMT. This is because the European traders are still active. After the European session closes at 17.00 GMT trade in the American session often decreases.

The most active trading airs during the New York session are USD/CHF, GBP/USD, USD/CAD and EUR/USD – they are the source of the high liquidity of this session.

It is wise to pay special attention to the pairs EUR/GBP and EUR/CHF, because when the forex market moves from the New York to the London session they become less fluid. Their liquidity generally does not revive until the following day’s opening of the London session. Their narrow range can make these pairs unprofitable for the trader – so trade them with good management.
